What a complete quote should cover
Price the transformation, not a headline door rate.
Two quotes can appear similar while covering very different work. Ask for the surfaces, preparation, hardware treatment, transport, installation and exclusions to be written down.
Workshop preparation
Cleaning, abrasion, repairs and substrate-specific priming before professional spray application.
On-site preparation
Fixed frames, end panels, plinths and other agreed surfaces masked and prepared in the property.
Reassembly & inspection
Components refitted, alignment checked and aftercare explained once the agreed work is complete.
Six quote factors
What moves a kitchen respray up or down the range?
1. Door and drawer count
More removable pieces mean more dismantling, preparation, spraying, handling and refitting. Large larder doors and integrated appliance fronts also need more booth space.
2. Fixed surfaces
Carcasses, cornices, pelmets, end panels, plinths, islands and glazed units increase on-site masking and preparation.
3. Existing finish
Sound painted timber, bare MDF, laminate and wrapped doors do not share one preparation route. Lifting vinyl may need removal before the substrate can be assessed.
4. Repairs and alterations
Chips, water damage, failed joints and previous coating problems take time. New handle positions can require filling and redrilling from £7 per door or drawer, subject to construction.
5. Colour and finish
Major light-to-dark or dark-to-light changes, more than one colour and specialist sheen requirements can alter material and labour.
6. Access and logistics
Parking, stair access, restricted working areas and travel outside the normal residential coverage can affect the programme and quotation.
Respray, reface or replace?
The cheapest route is not automatically the best-value route.
Respray when the layout works, cabinets are sound and the main problem is colour or surface appearance.
Reface or alter when doors are unsuitable but the carcasses remain useful, or when a modest configuration change solves the problem.
Replace when cabinets are structurally poor, the layout fails badly, water damage is extensive or you need a fundamentally different specification.
We will not present spraying as the answer when the underlying kitchen is not worth refinishing.
