Commercial office window spraying Derby
Commercial aluminium windows and curtain-wall systems define the appearance of an office, dealership, school or multi-storey asset. When the frames are structurally serviceable but the finish is faded, dated, damaged or failing, controlled on-site recoating can transform the elevation without automatically replacing the glazing system.
The valuable search is not simply “paint my window.” Commercial buyers need to know whether powder-coated or anodised aluminium can be prepared, whether mullions and transoms can be completed in situ, how glass and gaskets will be protected, what happens around opening vents and seals, how access will be managed and whether work can be phased around occupants.
SprayMasters answers those questions before promising a finish. We inspect the substrate and existing coating, agree the visual standard, test preparation and adhesion where appropriate, plan the interfaces, select the coating route and set environmental limits for the work.
For Derby offices, local surveys can start from our DE21 base. For larger curtain-wall and façade packages, commercial teams can mobilise nationwide.
Aluminium window and curtain-wall recoating
“Spray the windows” can hide six different interfaces. The quote should state exactly which aluminium faces are included, which functional parts are excluded and where seals or other trades become involved.
Colour change and refurbishment of suitable polyester powder-coated aluminium windows, including fixed lights and opening vents where condition, access and masking allow.
Preparation and compatible coating routes for suitable anodised aluminium. Anodising is not simply “paint,” so survey, cleaning, abrasion and priming decisions matter.
In-situ façade spraying across suitable curtain-wall grids, face caps and perimeter metalwork, with glass, gaskets, drainage paths and movement joints protected.
Coordinated spraying for aluminium entrance doors, sidelights, fanlights and framing so the main approach matches the renewed window or curtain-wall finish.
Related architectural metalwork can be surveyed alongside the frames to avoid a new window colour sitting beside tired, mismatched façade components.
Where coatings are chalking, lifting or flaking, the failure must be assessed first. Unstable material cannot be rescued by hiding it under another quick coat.
Curtain-wall and window-system detail
A commercial glazed system is not a flat sheet of metal. It contains interfaces that drain, move, seal, open, lock and keep glass in place. Good spraying respects that anatomy.
Glass, rubber gaskets, weather seals, handles, hinges, restrictors, locks, identification marks, drainage slots and weep paths are normally protected rather than coated. Silicone and other sealants need specific attention because contamination can destroy adhesion and some sealant lines may need separate removal or replacement by an appropriate trade.
Internal and external faces are also different packages. Opening vents, deep reveals, office blinds, furniture, sensors and tenant areas can change access and masking time dramatically. The scope must say whether it includes face caps only, full visible extrusions, returns, reveals, door leaves or internal faces.

Exterior spraying in rain and marginal weather
SprayMasters has personally observed crews applying coatings to prominent Derby commercial façades during rainfall and later seen coating loss at those locations. Without destructive testing and the project records, we would not attribute somebody else’s failure to one cause. The observation does underline a basic risk: moisture, contamination and condensation can prevent a coating system from developing reliable adhesion.
Rain is the obvious warning, but it is not the only one. A cold frame can sit at or near dew point even when the air feels dry. Water film, early-morning condensation, trapped moisture, rising humidity, windblown contamination and rain during the cure window can all undermine adhesion or appearance.
Commercial façade delivery
The visual finish is the last link in a chain of inspection, preparation, environmental control and careful interface work.
Addresses, elevations, photographs, quantities, existing finish, access, occupancy, target colour and programme are reviewed before budget assumptions are made.
Frame type, coating condition, defects, sealants, opening vents, height, access, public interfaces, overspray risk and weather exposure are assessed.
Cleaning, preparation, adhesion or compatibility trials and a visual sample can define the finish standard and expose unstable existing layers.
RAMS, product information, masking, exclusion zones, MEWP or scaffold interfaces, tenant coordination, shift windows and elevation sequence are agreed.
Surfaces are cleaned, abraded, repaired and primed as the selected system requires. Glass and functional interfaces are protected before controlled spray application.
Colour, sheen, coverage, visible defects and masking lines are checked. Protection is removed, snags are closed and project-specific records are supplied as agreed.

Important: existing powder coating is factory-applied. An on-site refurbishment does not turn the building into a powder-coating oven; it uses a compatible, site-applied architectural coating system selected for the prepared substrate and exposure.
Refurbish or replace commercial windows?
Spraying is powerful when the aluminium and glazing system remain viable. It is not a substitute for failed glass, exhausted seals, distorted sections, structural movement or a façade that needs fundamental replacement.
| Option | Best suited to | Commercial value | Watch point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Specialist clean only | Sound frames with surface dirt, staining or light contamination | Lowest intervention and useful before judging true coating condition | Cleaning cannot restore lost coating film or permanently reverse severe fading |
| Local coating repairs | Small areas of damage, scratches or isolated remedials | Targets defects without treating the entire elevation | Age, fading and sheen can make invisible colour matching unrealistic |
| Full in-situ respray | Serviceable frames needing a coordinated colour change or renewed appearance | Transforms large elevations without automatically removing windows | Preparation, existing adhesion, masking, environment and access determine success |
| Replace seals or glazing components | Perished gaskets, failed sealants, blown units or functional defects | Repairs building performance while retained metalwork can be refinished | Sequencing and responsibility between façade, glazing and coating trades must be clear |
| Replace window / curtain-wall system | Structural, thermal, water-ingress or end-of-life failure beyond coating scope | Addresses fundamental system deficiencies | Higher disruption, programme, waste and capital cost; specialist design may be required |

Coatings expertise behind the façade
SprayMasters is led by Ashley Wright, with more than 20 years of hands-on experience across commercial, retail and industrial coating environments.
Ashley has contributed to coating development and product testing in the UK and Italy. His work also includes inspection and expert reporting on poor preparation, adhesion failure and defective coating applications. That matters on aluminium façades, where the wrong assumptions can look convincing for a few months and then fail across an entire elevation.
SprayMasters has operated since 2013. For each office-window or curtain-wall project, the coating route is tied to the identified substrate, existing finish, preparation standard, exposure, application conditions and required appearance.

Office window spraying FAQs
Yes, many serviceable aluminium frames can be recoated in situ. The route depends on whether the surface is powder coated, anodised, bare or previously wet-sprayed; the condition and adhesion of that finish; contamination; exposure; and the target appearance. Survey and test preparation may be required before a full specification is confirmed.
Suitable polyester powder-coated frames can often be cleaned, abraded, primed where required and recoated with a compatible site-applied architectural finish. This is not new powder coating: powder coating is factory applied and oven cured. The old layer must be identified and stable enough to support the refurbishment system.
Potentially, yes. Anodised aluminium needs a preparation and primer route suited to the actual surface and condition. It should not be treated as if it were ordinary painted metal. A trial area or adhesion test can help establish the correct route before the main elevation proceeds.
Yes. Suitable curtain-wall mullions, transoms, pressure caps, entrance framing and related architectural metalwork can be surveyed as a coordinated façade package. The scope must distinguish coated aluminium from glass, gaskets, movement joints, drainage details, sealants and functional hardware.
Yes, either or both faces may be included. Internal work is a separate access and protection exercise involving tenant areas, blinds, desks, reveals, opening vents and room availability. The quote should state clearly which visible faces, returns and components are included.
Often it can be phased by elevation, zone, floor or out-of-hours window, but occupants cannot remain inside an uncontrolled spray area. Access, isolation, ventilation, product information, cure, noise, odour, opening vents and safe handback determine the practical sequence.
No responsible exterior programme should apply coating onto a wet or condensing frame. Rain, surface moisture and conditions near dew point can compromise adhesion and appearance. Application limits should follow the selected product data, and the programme must also protect the coating during its early cure period.
Access may use MEWPs, scaffold, podiums, existing façade cradles or a separately controlled specialist access solution, depending on height, ground conditions, public routes, elevation geometry and site rules. The coating price and access price should be based on a surveyed or clearly defined assumption.
Programme depends on frame count, profile complexity, internal or external faces, preparation, defects, masking, access moves, weather, occupied-building restrictions, colour change, coats and cure. A representative elevation or measured schedule gives a far more reliable duration than a generic daily-rate promise.
Cost is driven by quantities, floors, access, frame geometry, existing finish, coating condition, preparation, glass and gasket masking, sealants, colour and sheen, work hours, weather exposure, mobilisation and quality records. Send photographs and elevations for budget review; a site survey may be needed for a firm quotation.
It can be a materially lower-intervention option where frames and the wider glazing system remain viable and the problem is primarily appearance or coating condition. It is not a substitute for failed units, structural defects, serious water ingress or inadequate building performance. Those issues may require glazing or façade specialists.
Commercial projects can be matched to an agreed RAL, BS or other available project colour, with sheen and visual standard defined during specification. Existing weathering, adjacent cladding, glass reflection and sealant colour affect how the selected colour reads across a real elevation, so a sample is valuable.
Service life and any guarantee depend on substrate, stability of the existing coating, preparation, selected system, exposure, interfaces, application conditions, use and maintenance. Project-specific terms can be confirmed after assessment. SprayMasters does not offer one blanket duration before the building is inspected.
Send the site address, your role, clear photographs, elevations or window schedules, approximate frame quantities, floors, internal or external scope, known frame finish, defects, target colour and sheen, access information, occupancy, required dates and tender deadline. Include close-ups of peeling, corrosion, seals and previous repairs.
