Different wardrobe surfaces need different preparation.
The substrate comes first. Two wardrobe doors may look similar while requiring completely different primers and preparation underneath the finished colour.
MDF Wardrobes
MDF is commonly used in fitted furniture and can produce an excellent spray finish when sound. Damaged edges, exposed fibres and repaired areas need proper preparation and sealing before finishing.
Laminate & Melamine
Smooth decorative boards require particular attention to cleaning, mechanical preparation and adhesion. Applying ordinary decorative paint straight over a low-energy surface is not a professional coating system.
Timber & Veneer
Natural timber can be transformed into an opaque painted finish while grain characteristics may remain visible depending on the substrate. Staining, knots and previous treatments are assessed before coating.
Wrapped & Vinyl-Faced Doors
The existing wrap needs to be stable. Shrinking, bubbling or lifting material cannot be made structurally sound simply by spraying over it. Where necessary we will explain the appropriate remedial route first.

Water-damaged or swollen MDF
Coatings cannot restore the structural integrity of badly swollen MDF. Where components are beyond sensible repair, replacement may be required before the remaining furniture is refinished.
Loose or failing vinyl
A coating applied over unstable wrapping remains dependent on that wrap. We assess lifting, shrinking and bubbling before recommending a system.
Failing previous paint
A new coating is only as secure as the surface underneath it. Existing peeling or poorly bonded paint may require additional removal or remedial preparation.
Structural furniture problems
Spraying is a surface transformation. Hinges, badly damaged boards, failed fixings and structural defects need dealing with separately rather than disguising them under a new colour.

Can fitted wardrobes really be spray painted?
Yes. Many fitted wardrobes can be professionally refinished if the underlying furniture is structurally sound and the surface can be properly prepared for the proposed coating system.
The important question is not simply whether paint will cover the surface, but whether the entire preparation, primer and finish system is suitable for the material underneath.
How much does fitted wardrobe spraying cost?
The price depends on the size of the wardrobe installation, number and style of doors, drawers, end panels, material, current condition, repairs, colour, handle alterations and whether matching bedroom furniture is included.

Is spraying fitted wardrobes cheaper than replacing them?
It can be considerably more cost-effective when the existing fitted furniture is still structurally sound. Replacement means paying again for carcasses, doors, manufacturing and installation simply to obtain a different visible finish.
If the wardrobes are genuinely worn out or no longer suit the required layout, replacement may be the better investment. We assess the furniture rather than automatically recommend spraying everything.
Can MDF wardrobes be sprayed?
Yes. Sound MDF is extremely common in fitted furniture and can produce an excellent sprayed finish. Exposed MDF edges, repairs and previously damaged areas require the correct sealing and preparation first.
Can laminate or melamine wardrobes be sprayed?
Many can. These smooth surfaces require particularly careful decontamination, mechanical preparation and suitable adhesion-promoting or primer stages. They should not simply be treated like ordinary painted timber.
Can vinyl-wrapped wardrobe doors be sprayed?
Only after assessing the condition of the wrap. Stable surfaces may be suitable for refinishing, but loose, shrinking or bubbling vinyl should not simply be hidden beneath a new coating.
Do you spray fitted wardrobes in place?
Fixed sections can be professionally prepared and sprayed onsite with the surrounding bedroom carefully protected. Suitable removable doors and components may be processed separately at our Derby spray facility where that benefits the project.
Can you spray mirrored wardrobe doors?
Painted framing and surrounding sections can often be refinished while mirrors are carefully protected. The exact approach depends on how the mirror is constructed and fixed into the door system.
Can wardrobe handles be changed at the same time?
Yes. A colour transformation is an ideal opportunity to update handles and hardware. Where new handles require different fixing centres, existing holes may need filling and new positions accurately drilled before finishing.
Can you spray matching bedroom furniture?
Yes. Suitable bedside cabinets, dressing tables, drawers and other furniture can often be refinished alongside fitted wardrobes to create a coordinated room rather than treating the wardrobes in isolation.

How long does wardrobe spray paint take to cure?
The finish can normally be carefully handled well before it reaches its ultimate cure. For furniture coatings, allow approximately 14 days for full cure unless your specific aftercare instructions state otherwise.
During this period avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaning and unnecessary impacts.
